Hello!

This article features opportunities that the politically inclined may relish, but excludes internships for elected officials. However, if you’re interested in that type of internship, visit teensinpolitics.org for more information. Let’s get started!

For the history buff:
New York Historical Society Student Historian Program

As someone who has completed this internship, I unequivocally endorse this internship. Unlike other internship programs, the N-YHS program is singularly dedicated to furthering the education of its participants instead of assigning them menial tasks. If you’re interested in learning more about history, further cultivating your research skills, and meeting other like-minded high school students, this internship is for you.

For the aspiring lawyer:
1. New York County District Attorney’s Office High School Internship Program

The NY District Attorney’s Office Program is a six week internship program that provides high school students with the opportunity to witness the inner-workings of the justice system. One of the great perks of this program is that interns are paid a $150 weekly stipend. Teens who are interested in pursuing a career in public-sector law will enjoy this experience.

2. Bronx County District Attorney’s Office Internship Program

Similar to the NY District Attorney’s Office Program. High School Students interning during the school year must intern for at least two half-days a week. High school students interning in the Summer will be required to work Monday through Thursday, from 9 to 4.

3. Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Program

The Thurgood Marshall Program program places motivated, inner-city students with law firms for the summer. If you’re a teenager looking for a politics-related internship in the law, this internship is for you!

4. Hispanic National Bar Foundation’s Future Latino Leaders Law Camp

The HNPBF Camp sends latino students to Washington, D.C. for nine days at no cost to participants. Students may be current high school students or graduates.

For the future law enforcement officer:
1. FBI Volunteer Internship Program

The FBI Volunteer Program allows high school students explore life inside the Bureau as well as future career opportunities in federal law enforcement. If you’re a fan of NCIS or CSI, this internship experience will be a cool experience for you!

2. NYPD Law Enforcement Explorers

The NYPD Law Enforcement Explorers Program provides an opportunity for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 to work with members of their local police precinct. This program is part of the NYPD’s effort to foster better relations with the citizenry.
