This is a crucial year for Indian National Team. With the final of the World Test Championship in June and an ODI World Cup on home soil in October-November, BCCI will reportedly keep an eye on national team regulars during IPL 2023 and will manage their workload.
IPL is just over a week away and will see most players who represent India on the world stage taking part in the tournament. With India already dealing with long-term injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer, BCCI cannot afford another national team regular going down with an injury with multiple ICC tournaments on the horizon.

To keep player health in check, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has instructed NCA (National Cricket Academy) officials to keep a close eye on Test and ODI regulars for India and monitor their workload throughout the IPL. This comes via reports by Sports18.
The report also states that under no condition should a player play any matches in the tournament while carrying a niggle or injury.

Despite this edict to prevent player fatigue and injury, the schedule for these players is still very hectic. After a long home season that concluded with India vs Australia ODI series, players only have 8 days before IPL kicks off on March 31. Once the tournament ends on May 28, the national team will rush to England for the World Test Championship final, to be played between 7-11 June.
That will be followed by a tour to the West Indies and Asia Cup before the World Cup kicks off in October.
Ravi Shastri recently urged BCCI to manage player workload, even let them skip IPL if necessary
Ravi Shastri had recently urged the BCCI that they should manage the workload of national team players and reduce the burden of a hectic schedule.
In a recent discussion with Sports Yaari on the sidelines of Legends League Cricket, Shastri commented on how it was easier for players to have long careers back in the day, and how the high workload in the modern day is leading to player injuries. He then went on to say that BCCI should sit down and discuss with players about managing their workloads, even discuss with IPL franchises to not play the national team regulars if necessary.
“The establishment and players will have to sit across the table. You need that much cricket and you need to give certain break. Even if it happens to be IPL. Board has to take the stand there, tell the franchises, ‘listen, we need them. India need them. For India’s sake, if he doesn’t play those games, it will be good,” he said
India’s success in the World Cup and World Test Championship final will heavily depend upon whether the best players are available for selection or not. For that to happen, minimizing injuries is an important step.
