In preparation for the first Test match against Australia, which will start on February 9 here in India, the Indian squad is concentrating on fielding, particularly slip catching, according to head coach Rahul Dravid on Sunday.

The four-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia, which begins on February 9 at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur, has increased the intensity of the Indian team’s preparations.

Rahul Dravid stated that at the team’s training camp here in advance of the four-match Test series, the squad is attempting to tighten the slip cordon because the

“Everyone looks in really good shape. It’s nice to get the Test team together again. We had a lot of white-ball cricket over the last month or so,” Rahul Dravid said in a video posted by the BCCI on Twitter.

“Some of those boys, shifting from white-ball to red-ball, it’s nice for them to just have that extended period in the nets. The surfaces have been really good as well,” Rahul Dravid said.

“We have had a couple of really long sessions”: Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid said that there was little time for player development and that it was thrilling to start the series one week early.

“We have had a couple of really long sessions. I think it’s really exciting as a coaching staff because you don’t actually get times like this due to the amount of cricket we play. You don’t get time actually to do a camp or you can get an extended period of time where you get to work with players and build up towards the Test series” Rahul Dravid said in a video posted by the BCCI on Twitter.

India has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the last three test matches—at home in 2016–17, in Australia in 2018–19, and in 2020–21—all by a score of 2-1 during the course of a four-match series.

The opening Test will be played on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
