The veteran right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami ran through the Delhi Capitals top-order with his career-best bowling figures and he was well supported by his fellow bowlers as they restricted the David Warner-led side to 130/8.
Chasing the target, the Gujarat Titans batters just couldn’t get going. Skipper Hardik Pandya, meanwhile, stood strong at one end and scored a fifty with a poor strike rate.
In the end, the ice-man Rahul Tewatia smoked Anrich Nortje for three back-to-back in the 19th over to shift the momentum towards his side, but Ishant Sharma bowled a terrific last over to guide Delhi Capitals to an outstanding 5-run victory over the defending champions in a low-scoring thriller.
Speaking after the match, Hardik Pandya praised the Gujarat Titans bowlers for their brilliant showing but expressed disappointment over the performance of the batters. He said:
“(On the last few overs) We would have taken 129 on any given day. Just lost a couple of wickets and in the end, Rahul got us back in the game. I tried my best in the end but it was not to be.

“( On the discussion with Abhinav Manohar) We were hoping to get a couple of big overs in the middle but we couldn’t get rhythm. It was new for Abhinav as well and it boils down on how I could not finish the game. Full marks to the bowlers and full ownership I couldn’t finish it.”

I feel sorry for Mohammed Shami – Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya further lauded Rahul Tewatia for shifting the momentum towards Gujarat Titans at the backend of the innings and took responsibility for GT’s loss.
“Wicket was good enough, it was wicket pressure. They bowled really well, 10 overs for 80 we would have taken. In the end, Rahul got us in the game, otherwise, they were quite ahead. We lost this game because I couldn’t get my rhythm.”

Hardik Pandya also said that he feels sorry for the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who finished on the losing side despite his exceptional performance.
“(On Mohammed Shami’s brilliant bowling) I feel sorry for him, if you bowl like that, and restrict a team to 129 and still not win, the batters disappointed. I don’t think the wicket did a lot but full credit to him. It is still lots of games left, we will take all learning from this game and move on. All these things keep happening, that’s the beauty of IPL. We are still on top of the table but we still need to play good cricket.”
