Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy opened up about his heroics in the 47th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He said that his heartbeat was touching 200 in the last over but he wanted to challenge the opposition to hit him towards the longer boundary.
Kolkata Knight Riders snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs. The Nitish Rana-led side outshined the opposition by 5 runs to mark their 4th win of the season.

At one stage when SRH were cruising with 38 runs to win from 30 balls, Varun Chakravarthy bowled 18 balls out of that and didn’t concede a run on 8 balls. He gave away just 8 runs and defended 9 runs in the last over along with picking the wicket of Abdul Samad.

Varun Chakravarthy returned with the figures of 1/20 in his quota of 4 overs and was also awarded Player of the Match for his match-winning spell. What has noticeable was he bowled with the wet ball due to the drizzle. Notably, this was his second award this season.
Varun Chakravarthy said he wanted the opposition to hit to the longer part of the ground and admitted that the ball was slipping a lot from his hand. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:
“My heartbeat was touching 200 in the last over, but I wanted them to make hit to the longer part of the ground. The ball was slipping a lot and my best bet was the longer side and that was my only hope. My first over I went for 12 runs, Markram hit me for 2 fours and that’s how the game goes.”

Varun Chakravarthy further revealed that he made a slight change to his bowling as compared to last year. He added that he work on his revolutions. He explained:
“Last year I was bowling around 85kmph, I was trying out many things and I realized that I needed to work on my revolutions and I did work on it.”
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be next seen in action when they will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next game on Monday (8th May).
