According to officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jofra Archer, the English fast bowler who has been struggling with injuries, has been confirmed to play for the Mumbai Indians for the entire season of the IPL, reported Cricbuzz. The ECB source also mentioned that Jofra Archer’s workload would be managed by both his franchise and the ECB to ensure his full participation in the league.
This comes as a big sigh of relief for the Mumbai Indians, who are already set to miss out on the services of their premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury, with BCCI taking no risks with the players’ injury keeping the 2023 World Cup as their main priority.

There has been an ongoing debate among IPL franchises on how home boards can effectively manage the workload of their players during the league. However, foreign boards have reportedly implemented guidelines for their players, particularly fast bowlers, including restrictions on consecutive games played, the number of balls bowled in net sessions, and regular fitness updates.
IPL 2023: Jofra Archer’s Return A Big Relief For Mumbai Indians
Jofra Archer recently played for England in an ODI match against Bangladesh, where he took two wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. England are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh until March 14. After that, Archer is expected to join the Mumbai Indians for the IPL, where he will be available for the entire season and is likely to lead their attack from their first match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2.

During the 2022 mega auction, the Mumbai Indians made a strategic investment in Jofra Archer, purchasing him for Rs 8 crore, despite being aware that he would be unavailable for the season. The team had hoped to create a formidable pace attack by pairing Archer with Jasprit Bumrah. However, due to Bumrah’s absence, Archer’s investment seems to be paying off for the franchise.
Archer faced a prolonged absence from competitive cricket, missing almost a year and a half of play, including the latter half of 2021 and the entirety of 2022. He made his return to competitive cricket for MI Cape Town, which is fully owned by the Mumbai Indians management, in the SA20 tournament in January. Archer played five games in the tournament and also represented England in a three-match ODI series against South Africa.
