Cricket South Africa (CSA) is currently hosting the inaugural edition of the SA20 league with six teams. Sunrisers Eastern Cape spinner Roelof van der Merwe has stated that he would like to have Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav in his SA20 franchise if given the opportunity.
The 38-year-old has been in excellent form and was the highest wicket-taker in the inaugural edition of the SA20 competition. The left-arm spinner took 14 wickets in six matches at a 7.78 average and a 4.73 economy rate, with his best figures of 6/20 against Durban Super Giant.

At The Moment, You’ve Got To Go With SKY – Roelof Van Der Merwe
In a select media interaction, the left-arm spinner was asked which Indian cricketer he would most like to have in his SA20 squad. Van der Merwe chose SKY, saying that nobody is hitting the ball better than him at the moment and should be in their team.
“At the moment, you’ve got to go with SKY, the way he is hitting the ball, it’s got to be him at the moment,” Roelof van der Merwe said.
SKY has been named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2022. He had an excellent year in the shorter format and scored an impressive 1164 runs in 31 T20Is at a best average of 46.56 with an outstanding strike rate of 187.43.

He Is An Unbelievable Player – Roelof Van Der Merwe
Van der Merwe also praised young South African batsman Tristan Stubbs, calling him an “unbelievable player” and saying he cannot be compared with other young batsmen.
“He is an unbelievable player. You can’t compare them (the younger generation) to anyone. They are hitting the ball miles. Guys like him, (Donovan) Ferreira; they just take the game away. The likes of AB de Villiers, they constructed innings and shifted gears, but these players just go from ball one.”
