Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni talked about the win his side bagged in the 54th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Delhi Capitals (DC). He said that he knew that the spinners of his team can turn this around as they use a lot of seam.
Chennai Super Kings thumped Delhi Capitals by 27 runs to register their 7th win of the season. They batted and bowled extremely well, outshining the opposition in all three departments of the game to inch closer to the playoff spot.

Before Ravindra Jadeja (21) and skipper MS Dhoni (20) finished the innings on high that helped CSK post a total of 167 runs on the board. With the ball, Deepak Chahar took them off the flier with two quick wickets and then spinners kept things tight in the middle. Before Matheesha Pathirana took 3 wickets in the death to win the game for his side by 27 runs.

MS Dhoni said that he was happy with the score they got but the need to improve their batting. He also pointed out that every batter in their team must have some deliveries under their belt. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:
“It turned a lot in the second half. We know that our spinners use a lot more seam than some of the other bowlers. We thought it’ll slow down. We didn’t know what’s a good score. That’s why I wanted the bowlers to bowl their best deliveries but not look for wickets every delivery. That’s when you start not bowling well. I felt 166-170 was a good score.
But as a batting unit, we can do better. The good thing is Moeen and Jaddu got a chance to bat. As we get closer to the last phase of the tournament, it’s important that everybody has a few deliveries under their belt. We need to be happy with our batting.”

MS Dhoni, who has batted lower than No.6 in the ongoing IPL 2023, further went on to say that he has told his teammates to not make him run and he will the role of a finisher in the end. He also talked about using Mitchell Santner as an impact player. He explained:
“I would have loved Mitch (Santner), he’s a bowler that has done very well on flat wickets with the new ball. He hits the seam and bowls at a good pace. He (Gaikwad) is batting really well, he’s somebody once he starts scoring, he’s very effortless. He’s somebody who’s happy to rotate.
“He has the game awareness. He is ready to adapt. You rarely get people like that. People who read the game, those are the kind of players you need in your team. This is what my job is, I have told them this is what I am supposed to do, don’t make me run a lot and it has been working. This is what I need to do, happy to contribute.”
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be next seen in action when they will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next game on Sunday (14th May).
